What we do (and don’t do):
Primarily we prosecute criminal cases, both felonies and misdemeanors occurring in Sheridan County. Our office represents the entity of Sheridan County and all its departments. Also, we advise the Board of Commissioners and other public officials regarding public business.
The County Attorney’s Office also prosecutes bad checks written within the county. If you are the victim of a bad check, please fill out the 5-day Notice form and return it to the County Attorney’s Office with the returned check.
We are prevented by law from representing private clients or advising people regarding their private legal affairs. The Montana Law Help website and the “Legal Resources” section of the Montana Bar Association website are helpful in understanding private civil matters.
Filing Criminal Charges
Filing criminal charges requires an investigation and action by a law enforcement agency. The Sheridan County Attorney’s Office does not investigate crimes. You should contact the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office at (406) 765-1200 if you believe a crime has been committed.
